ICPHSO's 19th Annual Meeting and Training Symposium
The time is fast approaching for ICPHSO's 19th Annual Meeting and Training Symposium taking place in Orlando, Florida February 28 - March 2, 2012. This fall ICPHSO’s meeting in Seoul, Korea showed us once again the commitment and investment of product safety professionals from all regions of the world in understanding the common goals and concerns relative to consumer safety. Our ever expanding network of experts from government, consumer groups, business and education will be present to share best practices and learn from one another. We hope you are planning to join the 500+ other attendees we expect to be there! Networking amongst the various stakeholders is invaluable for all.
This Symposium begins Tuesday, February 28th with a Day One focus on manufacturing. Regulatory updates will be provided and recommendations for best practices for large and small manufacturers will set the stage for a conference-long goal of providing useable information that can transfer to your organization. Discussions on the challenges of effectively balancing safety improvements with cost concerns, innovation and regulatory mandates will be of interest to all. Reflecting our global scope, we are pleased that Dr. Evelyn Jacir de Lovo from the Organization of American States (OAS) will deliver the opening plenary keynote address.
As we look toward the future of product safety, there is increased interest in how to groom new engineers and product developers to incorporate safety into their designs. Our lunchtime speaker on Tuesday will be Dean Joseph Holtgreive of Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science. Dean Holtgreive will share innovative approaches developed by engineering students to address risks posed by a various consumer products.
Wednesday will be packed with a multinational government plenary session, reporting on international issues affecting product safety internationally. In addition, there will be a variety of workshops on risk assessment and management, navigating the Canadian Consumer Law, and human factors.
We are pleased to announce that award-winning American reporter and broadcast journalist, Tom Costello, will speak to us at lunch on Wednesday. A three-time National Emmy winner, Tom covers consumer concerns and regulatory agencies for NBC and MSNBC in Washington, DC, and we look forward to hearing his perspective on consumer safety.
On Thursday, we’ll shine the light on legal issues affecting consumer products. A half day will be devoted to topics such as enforcement, incident reporting in the world of the new US database, and comparisons between the Canadian Consumer Product Safety Act and the US CPSA.
Thursday will be highlighted with a keynote luncheon address from CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum.
