ICPHSO Report / September 2016
A Note from Nancy
Dear ICPHSO Members and Friends,
After a successful annual symposium in Washington DC and liverly regional workshop in Atlanta, ICPHSO is gearing up for the November 14-15 International Symposium in Brussels, Belgium as part of International Product Safety Week. More details are in this newsletter. I look forward to seeing many of you there.
You’ll hear about the journey Marc Schoem and I took to Beijing, China. I was invited to speak on behalf of Kids In Danger at the China – United States – European Union Consumer Product Safety Trilateral Summit. We used the opportunity to visit stakeholders in Beijing from government and industry. We wanted to personally encourage their participation in ICPHSO and learn about their activities and how we might collaborate for product safety. It was a rewarding trip – a first for me and Marc’s first trip on behalf of ICPHSO.
As I engage with stakeholders in product safety, whether in standard setting meetings, conferences, or elsewhere, I continue to hear how important ICPHSO is as a forum for an exchange of ideas on product safety. We have a tremendous opportunity now with a full-time director and one with such valuable experience in the field! I encourage you all to get involved and help us continue to strengthen ICPHSO. Some ideas:
- Join the planning committee for the February 20 - 23, 2017 Annual Symposium in Orlando Florida. Rick Brenner, President Elect and Symposium Chair, is ready to put together an exciting program with many opportunties for networking and learning. For quesitons, please contact Marc Schoem.
- Come to Brussels in November and meet our supporters and members who don’t always make it to the US conference. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in other International Product Safety Week sessions and events.
- Invite Marc to your industry’s conferences or meetings and introduce him to other leaders. This will help us grow and make us a stronger organization.
- Volunteer to help on our membership, newsletter or other committees. Marc can put you in touch with the right person.
